Exercise / Tutorial 3

Halo.

This tutorial touches on how to make a text or type to look real or 'alive' on a texture specifically in this tutorial, a wall. It involves adjustments on channels and manipulating them.

To start off, i have to make some distorted effect on the type itself. This is just making a random lines to make it looks like a wall texture. After making a layer mask on the type layer, this is how it looks like after applying the pixelate filter. I have to make one more channel layer and apply some brush filter to make the outer type look like it has been painted.

By playing around on the layer style, i can achieve a real on the wall effect of the type. Here i play around on the underlying layer level. This is the final output.

Final Output

Next is manipulating the type by including an image layer underneath the type. The technique is same as the first one but only this one i use the 'group with previous layer' technique. This is the result.

Final Output

Then i apply the skills that i have learnt on this tutorial. Cut out a frog image. Play around with the Layer Style to make it looks like on the wall. Type in the text, rastrize it. Do some channel layer and apply same as the first tutorial. After that i realize it does not have to be on the wall. Then i put them all together on a paper texture. This is the result. It may not look good but there is a first time for everything right ? ;)

Assignment 1 Presentation

I emphasizes on building to attract the audience. These are the favorite places in Malaysia. By naming them, the audience will know exactly what are these buildings.

Good luck ! :D

Assignment 1 Process

I start off with gathering the images. I collect them from several sites like Deviantart, Flickr and Google. These pictures is taken to 'chopping' process using pentool. I did not cut them precisely as i want them to look like a collage in the final result.

Next step is re-arranging the cut out images. After resizing, i stacked them out. Using the 'Color' layer style, i colored the images brown. There is not much steps taken in this process, just the normal technique that i practice from watching the tutorial videos.

I apply text on the next process. Here i use ' Madsch' font. I downloaded it from Deviantart. It gives a kid handwritten kind alike. After entering the text, i rasterize the text layer to treat them like object instead of text-only.

I downloaded some tape brush to make the background of the text layer. The brush is set to certain pixels to make them suits with text. Applied on each text. Next is placing the note style paper on the main layer. Again, type in the text.

The last section will be drawing the arrows. On the last tutorial, i have been exposed to some certain function of pentool to create a stroke. I google around and found a way on how to make a line.
1- Use pentool to make the desired line.
2- On the path pallette, right click on it, and select stroke path, simulate pressure.
This will create the line with the brush i selected.

Upon finishing i rearrange the whole building images and also the logo. Result is in the next post.

Assignment 1 : Project Charter

Assignment Title : "Malaysia, Truly Asia" (print out postcard)

Project Start Date : 28 February 2009

Project End Date : 6 March 2009

Project Manager : Muhammad Aliff Ali Azizan

Email : mcg1016.1051106842@gmail.com

Website : http://computer-graphics2.blogspot.com/

Project Objective

Applying some useful techniques and combining it with extra touches that i have learned from the net to create an interesting postcard in order to promote Malaysia. I will be focusing on building only as a way to attract people. The theme is buildings.

Approach

I will be slicing some stock photos and play around with some colors and textures. Tools that will be use is lasso, pen tool, crop and etc.

Idea

The idea is to come up with a postcard of a national symbol building. Here i choose several images of the main attraction to Malaysia as the main subject of the postcard. There will be some other elements that will be added to the postcard.

Tutorial 2

In this exercise, i have been introduced to some of the techniques on coloring, grayscale-ing and choosing some parts of the image to apply certain amounts of colors through hue/saturation layer effects.

By making a layer, i can apply some colors by using brush tool but i must set the layer to color instead of normal blend. Here i can specifically color the finger tips and also makes the skin color to gray.

Next is manipulating the color properties for grayscale. If i used the normal grayscale method, i will lose some of the colors thus will decrease the quality of the image. But by making few layers of hue/saturation, i can manipulate the colors.

The other practice of coloring by using hue/saturation layer effect is to make a path by pen tool. It will creates a selection and then i can manipulate the color of selection only.

I make some experiments after finishing these exercises. These are the results.

The first one is original image and of course the second one is edited. I colored the background with gray. I used the path by pen tool technique to color the eye. And notice the manik on the shirt, it is also colored.

See ya.
